Extend, Drill, Seat: Meet Wing King

Wing King is Drill King’s newest casing advance system to market, designed around a simple cam-sliding mechanism: as drilling begins, the wings extend outward to cut a hole larger than the casing OD, allowing the casing to follow the bit down through loose, collapsing ground and seat securely once bedrock is reached.

The system is easily paired with Drill King’s full range of DTH hammers and is built to suit industry-standard casing pipe, including thicker-wall variants. Replaceable wings and key wear components keep running costs low, while a simple, low-cost plain steel casing drive shoe keeps cost-per-drilled-foot competitive against more complex casing systems.

Key Features

Why Choose Wing King

Simple 2 & 3 Wing Design

A proven, low-complexity mechanism that's easy to maintain and quick to turn around in the field.

Widest Size Range in the DKI Casing Line

Covers casing OD from 4.5" (115mm) right up to 36" (914mm), the largest range of any Drill King casing advance system.

Replaceable Wings & Components

Wear parts are designed for fast field replacement, minimizing downtime between runs.

Low Cost Per Drilled Foot

An inexpensive plain-steel casing drive shoe keeps overall tooling cost down without sacrificing performance.

Fits Industry-Standard Casing

Compatible with standard and thicker-wall casing pipe, with no special casing required.

Permanent or Retrieved Casing

Configure for casing left in the hole or pulled out after drilling, depending on your project's engineering needs.

How It Works

The Wing King Mechanism

1
Drilling begins with the wing bits closed, allowing the assembly to enter the casing at the planned hole diameter.
2
As rotation and percussion start, the unique cam-sliding mechanism extends the wing bits outward, cutting a hole larger than the casing OD.
3
The casing follows the bit assembly down through loose overburden as drilling advances, maintaining a stable, supported borehole.
4
Once solid bedrock is reached, the casing seats securely. Depending on project requirements, casing can be left in place (permanent) or the assembly retrieved.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the maximum casing size for Wing King?

Wing King covers casing OD from 4.5″ (115mm) up to 36″ (914mm), the widest range in Drill King’s casing advance line.

Does Wing King work with standard casing pipe?

Yes. The system is built to suit industry-standard casing pipe, including thicker-wall variants, with no special casing required.

How does Wing King compare to a Ring Bit system?

Wing King uses cam-actuated wings and covers a larger size range, making it well suited to large-diameter piling and bigger overburden jobs. Ring Bit uses a locking pilot bit design and is typically chosen for smaller, more precise casing applications. See our Casing Advance Systems hub page for a full comparison.

Can Wing King casing be retrieved?

Yes, Wing King is available in both permanent (left-in-hole) and retrieved (pulled-out) configurations.
