Drill It. Case It. One Pass.

Drill King's Casing Advance Systems (CAS) simultaneously drill and advance casing through unstable overburden into solid bedrock β€” eliminating hole collapse, cutting trip time, and giving you a stable, cased borehole in a single run. Available as casing up to 36” (914mm) in diameter.

One Pass, No Collapse: DKI's Casing Advance System

A Casing Advance System combines the drilling process with the casing process into one operation. A specialized casing drill bit, positioned in front of a conventional DTH air hammer, drills the hole while simultaneously driving casing down behind it β€” cutting a hole slightly larger than the casing OD so the pipe follows the bit down without restriction.

This matters most in fractured rock, loose gravels, sand, and other unconsolidated ground where an open, uncased hole would collapse before a conventional casing or grouting operation could be completed. By casing and drilling in the same pass, DKI’s CAS keeps the borehole stable from surface to bedrock, reduces overall drilling time, and lowers project cost versus multi-stage methods.

Why Casing Advance

Built For Difficult Ground

Borehole Stability

Prevents collapse in fractured rock, loose gravels, and unconsolidated overburden by casing as you drill, not after.

One-Pass Efficiency

Eliminates the separate drilling and casing stages required by conventional methods, reducing project timelines.

Flexible Casing Retention

Choose permanent (left-in-hole) or retrieved casing depending on project and engineering requirements.

Compatible With Your Fleet

Designed to pair with Drill King's full range of DTH hammers and most industry-standard casing pipe.

Two Systems, One Goal

Choose The Right Casing Advance System

DKI offers two distinct Casing Advance System designs, each suited to different ground conditions, casing sizes, and project requirements. Both are available for permanent (left-in-hole) or retrieved (pulled-out) casing, and both can be customized for non-standard casing or extra hard-facing treatments in highly abrasive ground.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Casing Advance System?

A specialized drilling solution that simultaneously advances casing and drills the hole in challenging ground conditions, maintaining borehole stability and preventing collapse in unstable formations.

What applications are best suited for Casing Advance Systems?

Foundation drilling, water well drilling, geothermal drilling, and mineral exploration are among the most common applications, anywhere unstable overburden sits above bedrock.

What's the difference between Wing King and Ring Bit systems?

Wing King uses cam-actuated wings that open on rotation and suits larger casing sizes up to 36”. Ring Bit uses a locking pilot bit inside a ring bit for sizes up to 24”, with a Pass-Thru variant for drilling on through into bedrock without a tool change.

Can casing be retrieved after drilling?

Yes. Both Wing King and Ring Bit systems are available in permanent (left-in-hole) and retrieved (pulled-out) configurations depending on your project’s engineering requirements.

Does Drill King offer technical support for installation?

Yes. Drill King’s technical department offers in-depth support for installing, operating, and maintaining Casing Advance Systems, tailored to your specific drilling requirements.
