Casing Shoes & Casing Crown Bits: Advance Through Any Ground.

Drill King's casing shoes and casing crown bits are built to guide and protect rotary casing as it advances through unstable, unconsolidated, or variable overburden — giving drillers a reliable way to case and drill simultaneously without losing hole integrity, built to the same standard water well, geotechnical, and mining teams have relied on for decades of casing advance work.

Advancing Through Anything: Drill King's Casing Shoe & Crown Bit Range

Casing advance drilling exists for one reason: keeping the hole open in ground that won’t hold itself. Since rotary casing systems were adopted to meet that exact demand, casing shoes and crown bits have continually evolved to cut cleaner, wear longer, and hold gauge through more difficult formations — and Drill King’s casing shoe and crown bit range is built to that standard.

Manufactured to suit a variety of rotary casing sizes, Drill King’s casing shoes and casing crown bits give water well, geotechnical, construction, and exploration drillers a dependable way to advance casing through overburden, running sand, gravel, and other difficult ground — with popular production and stock sizes ready to ship, and custom configurations available on request for projects that fall outside the standard range.

How It Works

Casing Shoes & Casing Crown Bits, Explained

1
The casing shoe or crown bit is fitted to the leading edge of the rotary casing string, ahead of the casing pipe body.
2
As the rig rotates and advances the casing, the carbide-faced shoe or bit cuts and guides the string through the formation.
3
Because the shoe or bit is sized to the casing outside diameter, it opens a bore that lets the casing follow immediately behind the cutting face, holding the hole open through unstable or unconsolidated ground.
4
Wear pads and premium carbide options protect the shoe or bit from abrasive formations, keeping the casing string advancing efficiently to target depth.

Common Questions

Casing Shoes & Casing Crown Bits FAQs

What's the difference between a casing shoe and a casing crown bit?

Both fit to the leading edge of a rotary casing string to guide it through the formation. Casing shoes are typically the cutting reference for the casing pipe itself, while casing crown bits describe a carbide-faced cutting profile on that leading edge — Drill King builds both to suit different casing systems and formation conditions.

What sizes does Drill King offer?

Popular production and stock sizes include 133mm x 140mm, 152mm x 160mm, 152mm x 154mm, and 219mm x 234mm, matched to standard rotary casing.

Can Drill King manufacture custom sizes?

Yes. Alongside the popular stock sizes, our technical team can discuss custom sizing to match casing strings outside the standard range.

What thread and carbide options are available?

Double lead or triple lead threads in right hand or left hand configurations, paired with premium or standard carbide in parabolic, dome, or chisel profiles.

Do casing shoes and crown bits require additional heat treatment?

Not by default, but additional heat treatment is available on request for projects running in especially abrasive or demanding ground conditions.
