Overview

Drive Head Bits β€” Built for Getting Casing to Depth, Simply

Not every casing job calls for breaking hard rock. In soft-to-medium ground, the priority is simply getting casing safely and efficiently to depth β€” and that’s exactly what DKI’s Drive Head Bits are built for. Rather than a rock-cutting bit, the drive head bit acts as a driving shoe that pushes casing through the formation, with side inlet air holes engineered to keep adequate flushing through the drive.

The system is intentionally simple: one casing driver can be used across multiple casing diameters within the 3.5″–4″ (89–102mm) range, and the bits come with standard 3″ and 4″ hammer shanks β€” meaning most rigs already running standard DTH equipment can put a drive head bit to work without additional tooling investment.

Key Features

Why Choose DKI Drive Head Bits

One Driver, Multiple Casing Sizes

A single casing driver covers multiple casing diameters within the 3.5"–4" range, simplifying tooling inventory.

Standard Hammer Shank Compatibility

Built with standard 3" and 4" hammer shanks, fitting most existing DTH rig setups without modification.

Engineered Air Flushing

Side inlet air holes ensure adequate flushing through the drive, keeping the bit clear and reducing the risk of binding.

Aerospace-Grade Steel Construction

Manufactured to the same quality standard as Drill King's full DTH Drill Bits range.

Purpose-Built for Soft Ground

Designed specifically for soft-to-medium ground conditions where casing needs to be driven rather than drilled through hard rock.

Common Questions

DTH Drive Head Bits FAQs

How is a drive head bit different from a button bit?

A button bit drills and breaks new rock. A drive head bit is designed to push casing through soft-to-medium ground without needing to break hard rock, making it a simpler, more cost-effective solution for casing-only applications.

Can one drive head bit handle different casing sizes?

Yes. One casing driver can be used across multiple casing diameters within the 3.5″–4″ (89–102mm) range.

What hammer shanks are compatible?

DKI Drive Head Bits come with standard 3″ and 4″ hammer shanks, fitting most existing DTH rig setups.

Is this suitable for hard rock formations?

No β€” drive head bits are purpose-built for soft-to-medium ground. For hard rock casing advance applications, see Drill King’s Casing Advance Systems (Wing King and Ring Bit).
